Michelle Ritz, Psy.D.
Clinical Psychologist
In Network: Aetna
I am a licensed clinical psychologist who provides individual psychotherapy to adults struggling with anxiety, depression, transitions, identity, loss, self-esteem, and relationships. I have additional specializations in working with LGBTQ+ and Women, and sexual issues, non-monogamy, substance use, and addiction. My practice provides gender-affirming, anti-racist, sex-positive, body-positive, poly/CNM-affirming, feminist, and culturally responsive care. My clients and I strive to cultivate a space of curiosity, non-judgment, compassion, respect, flexibility, and humility.
Working within a psychodynamic framework, one of my roles in therapy is to help you make sense of your experiences and emotions, thereby increasing your ability to navigate your life in a fulfilling way. Whatever issues might bring you in, I believe becoming more intimately familiar with your feelings is essential to treatment. I work with people to better understand the sources of their emotions because I believe understanding, instead of hiding from fear and shame, provides self-acceptance and, consequently, relief. I additionally incorporate Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills so that you can learn how to cope better and be more effective in day-to-day living. Other parts of the treatment may include exploring early relationships and how they influence expectations, fears, wants, and actions in the current day. I also work within the therapeutic relationship, using the therapy experience as a healing mechanism. The ultimate goal is for you to feel empowered and free to create the life you want.
I received my Psy.D. in clinical psychology from Long Island University and completed my predoctoral internship at Kings County Hospital. I am currently pursuing further education in psychoanalysis as well as in sex therapy.
I want to say that the process of finding a therapist can be challenging! If we meet for a consultation, I aim to work collaboratively to determine the most helpful path forward for you.
